Senior Credit Analyst

POSITION TITLE:     Senior Credit Analyst

LOCATION:                  Forest City

DEPARTMENT:        Lending Department

REPORTS TO:            Sr Vice President – Senior Lender

SUMMARY: Prepare and analyze tax returns and financial statement spreads for loan presentations.  Monitor loan files for completeness and overall adherence to loan policy.  Accompanying lenders on limited outside sales calling efforts to expand customer base and services. Limited involvement in cross-selling bank services and sales referrals. Perform routine duties with minimal supervision.


1. Credit Analysis and Monitoring Credit Files

 a. Be proficient in preparing and analyzing financial spreads in Moody’s Web Equity software. This entails using Web Equity software to spread financial statements and tax returns to generate cash flows. Responsible for spreading and analyzing all financial statements (ag & commercial) in all offices as needed.

b. Develop material for and assist in writing loan presentations for Loan Committee. When necessary, share knowledge of credit file as participant of the Loan Committee (non-voting member).

c. Train, counsel, advise, and communicate credit department policy and procedures to other company employees.

d. Be proficient in the use of excel to develop models, both mathematical and statistical, that assist in the analysis of the risk being measured.

e. Completing inspections of collateral as requested. Providing or maintaining credit related reports as needed.

f. Completing internal RE evaluations as needed. Obtaining environmental evaluations and evaluating results. 

g. Assist Sr Loan Officer in monitoring his credit portfolio, including assisting in the preparation of loan presentations.

h. Assist in monitoring credit file exception list. Assist Loan Officers in eliminating credit file exceptions at all offices.

i. Monitor both purchased and sold participations for interim and other documentation that is required per loan agreements and participation agreements.

j. Monitor current creditworthiness of existing customers and loans. Collect, analyze, and review information through direct inspection of the applicant’s business and/or collateral, review of financial information, personal interviews, and other means. Follows departmental procedures to report and/or help collect problem accounts.

k. Assist the loan department and bank in achieving its goals for profit, growth, and loan quality.

2. Perform other duties as assigned. Undertake special projects relating to the departmental services as assigned by supervisor.

3. Participate in various community activities and organizations to enhance bank’s involvement and image in the community.


    • Timely and accurate loan presentations including financial spreads.
    • Timely elimination of credit file exceptions.
    • Assist bank in maintaining a quality loan portfolio.
    • Compliance with banking industry regulations; federal and state statutes and applicable bank policies
    • Quality service delivery and positive customer staff and community relations.
    • Timely identification and reporting of past-due accounts.

Work requires an extensive knowledge of financial analysis. Involves the exercise of judgment in the analysis of facts or conditions within the specifications of standard practice. Requires occasional supervision while working toward a definite objective using a wide range of procedures.

This position requires no direct supervision of others; however, it does require the applicant to help in training and share their proficiency in credit analysis.



Education and/or Experience:
Minimum of five years of credit analyst experience is required.  A college degree with advanced knowledge or training in business, finance or accounting preferred.

Communication Skills:
Possesses strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills to professionally communicate with customers and other staff members their concerns and questions.  Ability to identify customer needs.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to comprehend complex mathematical calculations.  Knows and understands general accounting procedures.

Technical Skills:
Ability to obtain knowledge in the use of basic office equipment, including, but not limited to:  PC Computer with mouse, Copier, Printer, Fax Machine, Telephone, 10-key Calculator, and Typewriter. Knowledge and usage of Web Equity, JH Experience, Excel, Word, Laser Pro, Outlook, and other software as needed.

Reasoning Ability:
The analytical ability to conduct an analysis of an applicant’s credit status and recommend alternatives where the analysis reveals an insufficient financial posture.  Ability to use common sense and logic for problem solving.  Knows and understands basic compliance.  A high level of interpersonal and listening skills to conduct productive interview sessions with applicants and for customer referrals. Know and understand our bank policy including recognizing exceptions to policy.
