Credit Analyst

POSITION TITLE:       Credit Analyst

REPORTS TO:              Sr Vice President - Lending

SUMMARY: Gather, prepare, and analyze financial statement spreads and loan presentations. Loan tickler administration.  Special projects as assigned by lenders.  Limited outside sales calling efforts to expand customer base and services. Be involved in cross-selling bank services and sales referrals. Perform routine duties with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  1. Credit Analysis and Monitoring Credit Files
    1. Prepare and analyze financial spreads. This entails using the bank’s software to spread financial statements and cash flows. Responsible for spreading and analyzing all financial statements (ag & commercial) as requested by lenders. 

    2. Develop material for and assist and/or prepare loan presentations for Loan Committee. Serve as a non-voting participant of Loan Committee.

    3. Assist Ag and Commercial Loan Officers with monitoring their credit portfolio, including assisting in the preparation of loan presentations and annual reviews.

    4. Assist Loan Officers and Loan Processors to eliminate credit file exceptions at all offices.

    5. Monitor loans, including loan participations purchased and sold, for interim and other documentation that is required per loan agreements, participation agreements, and loan policy.

    6. Assist with internal appraisals and environmental reviews. Assist lenders with monitoring construction progress and site inspections.

  2. Service and monitor consumer, ag, and commercial loan accounts as assigned within established loan policy guidelines.
    1. Collect and analyze financial and related data to determine general creditworthiness of the prospect and merits of the specific loan request. Works with Lender to assist customers as needed.

    2. Monitor current creditworthiness of existing customers and loans. Collect, analyze, and review information through direct inspection of the applicant’s business and/or collateral, review of financial information, personal interviews, and other means. Follows departmental procedures to report and/or collect problem accounts.

    3. Assist the loan department and bank in achieving its goals for profit, growth, and loan quality.

  3. Participate in various community activities and organizations to enhance bank’s involvement and image in the community.

  4. Perform other duties as assigned. Undertake special projects relating to the departmental services as assigned by supervisor.

 

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Timely and accurate loan presentations, financial spreads, and annual credit file reviews.

  2. Timely elimination of credit file exceptions.

  3. Compliance with banking industry regulations; federal and state statutes and applicable bank policies.

  4. Quality service delivery and positive customer staff and community relations.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Work requires an extensive knowledge of the lending function. Involves the exercise of judgment in the analysis of facts or conditions within the specifications of standard practice. Requires occasional supervision while working toward a definite objective using a wide range of procedures. Occasionally, additional work time over 40 hours per week may be required.  Saturday morning work rotation as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position requires no supervision of others.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:
Minimum of two years of credit analyst experience is preferred.  A college degree with basic knowledge or training in business, finance or accounting preferred.

Communication Skills:
Possesses strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills to professionally communicate with customers and other staff members their concerns and questions.  Ability to identify customer needs.

Mathematical Skills:
High school basic math.  Ability to comprehend simple mathematical calculations such as adding, subtraction, division, calculation of interest and any other skills as needed.  Knows and understands general accounting procedures.

Technical Skills:
Ability to obtain knowledge in the use of basic office equipment, including, but not limited to:  PC Computer with mouse, Copier, Printer, Fax Machine, Telephone, 10-key Calculator, and Typewriter. Knowledge and usage of Web Equity Manager, Jack Henry, Excel, Word, Laser Pro, Outlooks, and other software as needed.

Reasoning Ability:
The analytical ability to conduct an analysis of an applicant’s credit status and recommend alternatives where the analysis reveals an insufficient financial posture.  Ability to use common sense and logic for problem solving.  Knows and understands basic compliance.  A high level of interpersonal and listening skills to conduct productive interview sessions with applicants and for customer referrals.

Requires employee to sit at desk with periods of walking or standing. Ability to go up and down stairs. Filing at ground level and eye level. Must be able to receive customer and staff requests and assignments through verbal and written communication. Working with a computer is important, so clear vision of the screen is imperative and for long periods of time.  Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
